Nathan Hope is an American cinematographer and director whose other medium is the still photograph. This site preserves the public structure and texts of his former photography portfolio at nathanwhope.com, which presented two bodies of work: the series Animal Behaviour and the three-day photo installation Fifth and Spring.
The statement on the original home page introduced Hope as a storyteller before anything else. His career began behind the camera as a cinematographer for film and television, moved on to writing and directing, and kept returning to the still image for what moving pictures rarely allow: intimacy, immediacy, and the discipline of telling a whole story inside a single frame.
