About

About Nathan Hope

Nathan Hope is an American cinematographer, director and photographer, active in film and television since the late 1990s.

The statement on his former photography site put storytelling at the centre of everything he does. He started as a cinematographer, lighting and framing other people's stories for film and television, and later took up writing and directing to tell his own. Still photography, as he described it, is where he goes when a story can be told with one image: it offers an intimacy and an immediacy that a moving picture, with its crew and its schedule, seldom does.

Two bodies of photographic work were shown on the site. Animal Behaviour was the newest series. Fifth and Spring was a photo installation made over three days in May 2011 around a police shooting at a downtown Los Angeles street corner.
